Pine Bush’s junior Little League baseball team advances to the championship round starting Wednesday, July 10 in the City of Newburgh after beating Monroe-Woodbury and Wallkill Area last week.
Pine Bush opened the postseason Tuesday, July 2, and beat Monroe-Woodbury 8-6 at Delano-Hitch Stadium in Newburgh. On a very hot morning Saturday in Cornwall, Pine Bush played Wallkill Area and went down 2-0 before coming back to win 15-4.
Against Monroe-Woodbury, Devin Moore, Pine Bush’s starter, drove in two runs with a single to give his team an early 2-0 lead. After a run scored on an error in the second, Richard Blazeski singled home another run for Pine Bush in the third inning and the lead grew to 4-1.
In Cornwall, Pine Bush got off to a shaky start when Jacob Smith walked the first three batters and was relieved by Michael Zawojski without an out.
Zawojski walked the next batter for Wallkill Area’s first run. Mike Bowers then scored on a wild pitch as Wallkill Area built an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Pine Bush then regrouped to win 15-4 behind Zawojski, who pitched six innings, fanning seven and giving up two hits. Andrew Bandura helped by driving in six runs for Pine Bush.
