“Geometry, pattern, color, line, and perspective have always fascinated me,” states award-winning artist Vivien Abrams Collens. The products of this fascination are being displayed in a large variety of work in the Mindy Ross Gallery and Foyer in her show,
Lines of Inquiry
….paintings, drawings, models, mixed media, three-dimensional works….
Two and three-dimensional, small and large works are on the walls as well as free-standing in the Mindy Ross Gallery at SUNY Orange. Additionally, several media are represented in the three-dimensional artworks in the glass vitrine cases in the Foyer of the Mindy Ross Gallery. The exhibit extends through October 15, 2017.
Viewers will be able to experience the “playful dynamic approach” which Collens says guides her in painting and creating three-dimensional works in the forms of models and large pieces. Through her works she would like to convey to viewers her “curiosity-fueled thought process [which] is at the heart of my artmaking process.”
The artworks are engaging because something new seems to come forth when looking at them from different angles. Also, her choices of colors are very inviting. One goes away happy.
To complement this multi-faceted art exhibit, Collens is offering an art master class – workshop, Moving Between 2 and 3 Dimensions, starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, in the OCTC Great Room 101. Additionally, immediately following the workshop, an art reception is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery and foyer. These consecutive events plus the exhibit are free and open to the public.
Vivien Abrams Collens received a BFA at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and an
MFA at Instituto Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Her works are in many corporate and private collections and have been in numerous group and solo shows in NYC, the mid-Hudson Valley, New England, Cleveland, and other parts of the US. In addition, several paintings on long-term loan can be viewed on the second and third floor hallway walls of Kaplan Hall and one three-dimensional work at Tower Building’s fourth floor.
Regular gallery hours are 8am to 9pm Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays.
