The popular duo of Sonny & Perley will perform a mixed musical program on Sun., Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Newburgh Free Library (124 Grand Street). Selections will include Great American Songbook standards, French love songs, Jazz, International Cabaret and Bossa Nova. Bassist Lew Scott will also be part of this free concert.
Husband and wife team Sonny Daye and Perley Rousseau have spent the last 20 years developing and perfecting their unique blend of influences, achieving a rare musical symbiosis. Sonny & Perley regularly captivate audiences with their spontaneity, warmth, and broad repertoire when performing live. They keep an impressive performance schedule, averaging 250 dates per year throughout New York, New England, Florida, and in Europe. Four CD releases over the years have generated international air play, and received critical acclaim (Love Dance – 1996, East of the Sun – 1999, Let It Happen – 2004, and Love is Here to Stay – 2009).
In 2005, they were invited to participate in a collaborative effort of original compositions involving 13 other outstanding artists of the Capital Region of New York, which resulted in Saratoga Pie, a CD produced by Joel Moss (producer of Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, and many others). Most recently, in May of 2013, The Sonny & Perley Trio presented a prelude concert for iconic Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim at the Maureen Stapleton Theater in Troy, NY.
The magazine All About Jazz has this to say about Sonny & Perley: “They brightly meld lyricism, passion, and rhythm in a way that is both rich and exotic.”
Lew Scott has performed and toured with such notables as George Coleman, Melba Moore, Robert Goulet, Sergio Franchi, Eddie Fisher, Florence Henderson, Lucy Arnaz, The Four Aces, the Fifth Dimension, and many others. Scott has been performing in the New York area since 1978.
