  • Marlboro girls tops at meet

Marlboro hosted an invitational track meet Thursday, May 9, and the Dukes’ girls team outdistanced second place Highland to win with 95 points.

  • Lady Vikings extend win streak to 10

It is a place that is very familiar for the Valley Central softball team. The Lady Vikings stopped Minisink in Maybrook Thursday, May 2, 9-1 to go 10-0 into the first week of May after winning straight sectional titles.

  • Goldbacks show life in winning 8-3

Prior to hosting Saugerties Friday, Matt Iorlano, Newburgh’s baseball coach, looked a little weary, like it was the final days of the season, the dog days, when all those early hopes are settled by the realities of hitting slumps, miscues and simple bad hops through the infield.

  • Big inning boosts Lady Dukes to victory

The Marlboro softball team was trailing archrival Highland 1-0 going into the bottom of the 4th inning at Marlboro on a nice warm day on May 2. The weather was perfect and the only unperfect thing for the Dukes was the pitching of Highland’s Shannon Ward, but in the bottom of the 4th history changed.

  • Vikings win three of four

Solid pitching and a few timely hits boosted Valley Central past Marlboro on Saturday, as the Vikings capped a week in which they won three of four games.

  • Dukes drop 3 straight

The Marlboro Dukes encountered some rough road this week, dropping three straight and falling to 4-6. Matt Winkler was the bright spot in last Monday’s loss to Wallkill, going three-for three, including one double in the loss.

  • Connoly tosses 2nd no-hitter

The numbers have really been in the favor of Valley Central’s Cindy Connoly this season. Connoly threw her second no-hitter of the season when she beat Warwick 11-1 Wednesday, April 17. She struck out 10 against Warwick after tossing her first no-no against Middletown in the season opener.
