  • Castellani reacts to Marlboro budget failure

    Last week the Marlboro School Budget for 2013-14 failed to pass by a significant margin, 1,266 to 734. Superintendent Ray Castellani said he knew it was going to be difficult to get it passed because of the tax shift regarding the power plants.

    In a brief meeting before adjourning to hear the voting results on May 21, the Highland School Board discussed the possible need to update the district policy on the use of electronic devices by students and continued their discussion on changing the selective classification policy to be more in line with the state policy.

    The voters in Marlborough shot down the 2013-14 school budget of $50,441,631 by a vote of 1,266 to 734. Through months of work and many revisions, the District arrived at next year’s budget that is $2.5 million decrease from the current budget.

    The Highland Central School District budget passed Tuesday evening, May 21, with 62 percent of the vote. The totals were 968 yes votes and 593 no votes.   • School Board candidates make final pitch

    Next Tuesday, May 21, residents will vote for the Marlboro School budget for 2013-14 and for candidates for the school board. The vote is scheduled from 6 am, to 9 pm. in the Marlboro Elementary School 3-5 gymnasium.

  • Highland budget within 2% tax cap

    The Highland Board of Education held a public hearing on the budget for the 2013-2014 school year prior to their regular meeting on May 7.

  • Lloyd running out of space

    Highland Town Clerk Rosaria Peplow warned the Town Board that she is running out of space to safely store and manage town records and is in need of additional funding for a more permanent solution.
